The team would like to sincerely thank the Inger Rice Foundation for the recent grant that allowed the staff to distrubute $2000.00 in toys and art materials to some of our rural and remote Playgroups across the Darling Downs. |
| Thanks to the wonderful support of parents, Service Providers, Local and Federal government representatives the former Rainbow Project (2007 - 2010) and Parenting Support Projects (2004 - 2010) have been re-funded for another year. We have now combined the two projects( the former Rainbow Playgroups and Parenting Support Program) together with the new name the Rain Tree Project. The Rain Tree Project continues to support young children in families and communities living with drought related hardship. It operates in rural communities on the Darling Downs. (Local Government Areas: Dalby, Jimbour, Southbrook, Stanthorpe, Millmerran, Warwick and surrounds) and on a needs basis. The Rain Tree Project boosts family and community protective factors that promote resilience. Strategies aim to ensure that children experience supportive andenriching early life experiences. Strategies also build and maintain social connectedness. Key settings for interventions are existing Playgroups and transitioned Rainbow playgroups , community organisations/groups and agencies. Where needed, additional mobile supported playgroups will be established for groups socially excluded from existing playgroups. TheRain Tree Project will also assist all parents with children between 0 – 5 years in the community of Toowoomba and surrounding districts to improve their parenting skills and abilities. The project will achieve this by training community volunteers who will visit parents in their home to provide in-home parent support for up to 12 months, as well as providing a monthly forum for parents to meet together to share information and resources. The Rain Tree Project will train community volunteers who will visit the homes of parents of infants 0 – 5 years. The service will be offered free of charge to parents antenatally and postnatally who live in Toowoomba and the surrounding districts (up to ½ hr driving distance from Toowoomba CBD area). As appropriate, volunteers from rural areas will be sought and trained within their own community to support parents from that community with co-ordination of the program being run from The Kath Dickson Family Centre based in Toowoomba. |
