Approved Child Care Qualifications – 1 year courses
(Centre based including school age care services)
This list includes qualifications that are approved for work as a qualified assistant in licensed centre based services in Queensland. The list also includes the relevant training institutions.
If your qualification does not appear in the list you can apply to have your qualification determined for equivalence. Please refer to Child Care Form 20- Application for determination of qualifications on the Office for Early Childhood Education and Care website at www.education.qld.gov.au/earlychildhood/
Prescribed qualifications
Section 112 of the Child Care Regulation 2003 defines the qualification requirements for a “qualified assistant”.

A person has a qualification prescribed for an assistant if the person has:

(a) a *certificate III or IV in an area of study applying to child care workers under the AQF; or
(b) a 1 year qualification in early childhood studies or child care studies; or
(c) a qualification mentioned in section 113 (a) or (b) or 114; or
(d) if the person is a school age carer –
(i) a certificate III or IV in community services under the AQF; or
(ii) a 1 year qualification in an area of study mentioned in section 120; or
(iii) a qualification mentioned in section 113 (d).

Please note: The current community services *certificate III under the AQF is the Certificate III in Children’s Services – CHC30708.
